Euro Foods Group and BBC TV programme - from
On Tuesday 14th July, the BBC broadcast a programme called “What’s Really in our Food” which the Eurofoods group was asked to contribute to.
According to Panorama, analysis carried out by their researchers on two of our products – Rohim frozen chicken breasts and Cha Cha deep frozen raw skinless chicken breasts - suggested the presence of a non-chicken animal protein.
We can confirm that we have had guarantees from our reputable international suppliers that no non-chicken animal protein is added to ANY of the ingredients we source from them. We have strongly refuted Panorama’s suggestion to the contrary. Regular quality control product tests and inspections carried out on both our suppliers and their ingredients have also never identified any cause for concern.
Shelim Hussain, Managing Director of Euro Foods Group, said: “The issue lies with the scientific analysis and methodologies used in the ‘detection’ of non-chicken proteins within the poultry industry which remain inconsistent due to the lack of a definitive and industry recognised test. As a result, I can confirm that to eradicate any future question marks and/or confusion over non chicken protein detection levels in our product range, Euro Foods Group has decided to switch to a vegetable derived protein instead, a move which was completed by 29th June 2009. This will have no impact on either the quality or price of our products or on their manufacturing, processing or distribution. “
For customers who do not wish added protein in their chicken, we can confirm that our Crown Pollo, Murghee Master and Murghee brands do not now, and have never contained added protein of any kind
